Barack Hussain Obama has now been inaugurated as the 44th President of the USA - and he is the first African-American to reach such heights.

Barack is reported to have been born on August 4, 1961 at 7:24 PM in Honolulu,
USA. This moment finds Aquarius rising with the Sun in Leo and the Moon
in Gemini. His Sun in Leo likes to be in the centre of power. A
Geminian Moon gives him the mental versatility to handle many
conflicting thoughts and ideas and be able to express himself to a wide
cross-section of people. His Aquarian Ascendant perhaps accounting for
his his social conscience and idealistic drive - his fight against
racial injustice.
He has an odd pedigree - a white mother from
Kansas and a father from Kenya. After an early divorce his mother
re-married an Indonesian and Barack was thus initially educated in
Indonesia for 4 years. He then returned to Honolulu, Hawaii where he
was raised by his (white) maternal grandparents. The diversity of his
early home life is partly indicated by his Geminian Moon which squares
Pluto - this gives the horoscope its unusual collections of experiences
together with a mental restlessness - and perhaps with a personal sense
of specialness. A strong aspect between Mercury and Jupiter is an asset
for a public speaker, and although this connection is a turbulent
opposition, the Moon links to them both by positive (trine and sextile)
aspects. In some respects, this man has had a charmed life, repeatedly
doing well against the perceived stereotype.
The only major
aspect to his Sun is a square to the Neptune which is also the highest
planet in his chart. This is a man who dreams of a better world but his
expectation that his ideas will get automatic and mutual support may be
a subject to disillusion. He does try to balance possibly incompatible
peoples together. His choice of evangelical Pastor Rick Warren to lead
the inaugural invocation was controversial considering that Warrne's
outspoken views against gay and lesbian marriages are at odds with
Obama and his political team.
Obama's ideas are those of a
visionary, though his chart is more suggestive of a servant than a
master. This gets a positive expression within the American political
system: he is Man Serving the Country and of the Will of the American
People. He is clearly a catalyst for change and provides inspiration
and a prospect of hope at a difficult time for America.
He took
power by the American Constitution at 12 noon on 20 January 2009 at
Washington DC - although the actually oath ceremony was running about 5
minutes late. He gave a measured speech addressing many issues that he
regarded as important and distancing himself recent US activities
including the War on Terror - but the expected "historic" speech to
match the occasion was not really in evidence for most of the time. The
Moon in this chart is at the very end of Scorpio which perhaps
signifies the end of old-style politics. With a retrograde Mercury, it
is also unclear whether this administration will actually be able to
achieve as much as unrealistically hoped for. They start at a time of a
world financial crisis, with much international criticism of the USA
and with military commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan. Like the old
joke when asked how to get to somewhere, the response was "well I
woudn't start from here!".
