Alexander Ryback, with his own composition, Fairytale, won by a MASSIVE amount!
Alexander is reported to have been born on May 13, 1986 at 11.25 am in Minsk, Belarus. This moment finds Leo rising with the Sun in Taurus and the Moon in Cancer. His rising sign being in Leo he likes to be the centre of attention and he is generous and warm-hearted. His Cancerian Moon gives him a strong sense of roots and his heritage. Whilst his Taurean Sun has an instinctive need for security, needing to be valued - furthermore Taurus is ruled by musical and artistic Venus. That planet, will therefore offer a key to some of his inner workings.
Venus lies in Gemini, which makes for a very flirting attitude to romance and a preference to have more than one sweetheart could potentially make him a little two-faced. However, he will like to keep things light and breezy and is fond of sharp-witted and clever people. Venus is heavily stressed in his birth chart being in a major T-Square aspect together with Jupiter and Uranus. The aspect has tension and difficulties, but it underpins a strong drive that is constantly battling to be creative, exciting and unusual.
His Sun is quite powerful with a trine to Mars which gives him energy and a fiery determination to succeed. His emotional side is shown by the Moon and it is in sextile to Mercury. With Venus being in versatile Gemini, this is an asset for a competing song composer as has to have the knack of being able to please a very diverse range of people, and this talent he surely has as Alexander understands and coordinates words and music with a rare sensitivity.
The competition structure is quite elaborate this year. There are two semi-finals (on the 12th and 14th May). At each of these 19 nations participate and 9 are selected by the televoters - and a 10th is chosen by the back-up jury. So - 20 nations come through to the Grand Final and to them are added entries from Russia, France, Germany, Spain and the UK.
The Grand Final occurs on 16th May. Who will win? It is hard to predict as victory depends on pleasing a wide range of popular cultures. In the recent past, there has an emphasis on the taste of many like-minded Eastern European countries - and on the bright side, Alexander was born in Minsk of Belarus' parents and although he left there when he was only four years old, he will nevertheless have absorbed a sense of the area through his musical parents (albeit with their more classical musical upbringing). Nevertheless, the new system may be a surprise to many candidates.
Well will Alexander win? We would like to think so, and if not first he will certainly be in the top five.
Finale: Alexander did win, as a fairy tale should end - and they all lived happily ever after!!
